New Year and Progress
As we quickly approach the new year, people are busy setting goals and making resolutions. It is easy to identify the disappointments of the past year and so it is only logical that people use the changing of the calendar as a call to action. The new year always brings hope.
An important piece of the mastery puzzle is mindfulness. Remember those two questions that I tell you all to ask yourselves: “Where am I?”, and “What am I doing?”. By keeping those questions in front of you, you not only get a handle on where you are but you also get insights into where you are going and, to avoid being too negative, where you have been.
If you are improving in your kung fu, you are improving in most aspects of your life. Students, despite the less than ideal conditions at school, are seeing an improvement in their grades. Because of our kung fu, we are all handling the stress of life a lot better than we would otherwise. It is important to note that even if you are not accomplishing everything you want to accomplish, you are still accomplishing more than you could have without kung fu because of your focus on self improvement and mastery.
So when the clock strikes midnight and you ring in 2022, I want to remind everyone that if you did not accomplish everything you set out to accomplish in 2021, reflect on what you did accomplish in difficult circumstances and embrace the value of incremental progression.
