Always Improving

With Spring Break only five weeks away, I think it is important that we all keep in front of us the attitude that while there may be no formal classes that week, there is kung fu everyday.

It can be difficult to maintain a positive training structure when life throws us curve balls or when there is any disruption to our usual schedule. If you want to be successful at kung fu (or anything) it is important to keep your goals in front of you 24/7.

My life has been dedicated to kung fu and I am pretty much training every moment of every day. Training is not just the actual physical training but it is also the investment I dedicate to developing my mental attitude and ensuring that I have all the building blocks in place to maximize my success.

That being said, my Spring Break is not going to be spent with my feet up while I eat cheezies in front of a TV. I will be using this opportunity to heal my wounds (face it, if you're not broken you may not be pushing yourself beyond those arbitrary limits), reconnect with my friends and family (we're not on this journey alone - the support of our loved ones is crucial for our success), get some professional development in (my aunt just sent me Robert Pirsig's 25th anniversary edition's introduction to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance that reveals some stunning new insights that I want to explore), augment my training with some new workouts that my usual schedule does not allow (something outside to take advantage of the new season), and lastly reread a bunch of my old journals (always good to remind yourself of where you have come from to ensure you are still on the correct path).

My point? Maximize your opportunities. Time is finite so make the most of what you have been blessed with.
