SRKF Break-A-Thon 2024
COVID-19 has changed us over these past two years. How we communicate, how we work together as a community — it has all changed. It is important to remember that with all the challenges created by COVID-19, there are still the same chronic, ongoing issues plaguing our most vulnerable that have been intensified and complicated by the pandemic.
Kung Fu is much more than just kicking and punching, it has to be. Training in Kung Fu is empowering and what we do with that empowerment is a very important responsibility. Silent River Kung Fu’s Intelligent Curriculum includes several projects that promote compassion and emotional intelligence, empowering us to literally be the change we want to see in the world. Our Break-A-Thon is one such project.
If each student is able to raise $100 by breaking 10 boards in this year’s Break-A-Thon, our non-profit association, the Silent River Benevolent Foundation, will be able to continue to support important charities and initiatives with the funds we raise.
If you have any questions, please ask your Sifu or post them on this thread so everyone can benefit from your query. You can download your own copy of our pledge sheet from Kwoon Talk's Downloads.
Thank you in advance for your active engagement in this project.

A Discussion on Bullying
It is coming up to the end of the first month of the new school year and we have had a couple of schoolyard bullying incidents already reported. With the school system’s limitations when it comes to addressing bullying, a few families have requested a discussion on strategies that will help their children navigate difficult situations and how Kung Fu helps fortify students to deal with the complexities of bullying.
This informal discussion is scheduled to take place on Zoom at 11am on September 30, 2023 and is open to everyone including the general public. If you are planning on attending, please RSVP below.

Earth Day 2023 - Stony Plain "Pitch In" Event
This year Earth Day takes place on Saturday, April 22.
Earth Day is an international day devoted to our planet. Each year, approximately 1 billion people across 190 countries take action in raising awareness and bringing about change to protect the environment.
In recognition of this important day, Silent River Kung Fu will be participating in the Stony Plain “Pitch In” Week, for which we will be organizing a group to clean up Stony Plain’s Rotary Park on Saturday, April 22 from 10-noon. We will be meeting in the parking lot of Rotary Park at 9:45 am; bags and gloves will be provided.
In order to best prepare, we ask that you sign up using the google form link below. All ages are welcome, but we do ask that parents remain present with children, as we will not be able to provide supervision.
Earth Day Pitch In Sign Up Form
This event is a perfect example of taking your Kung Fu out of the Kwoon and into the world, and as such, directly aligns with our Green Stripe curriculum, Wude. So not only is this an amazing opportunity to help the earth, but it is also an opportunity to earn your green stripe.
We hope to see you there!
